Organisational Structures of AMCOW

AMCOW has four organs namely;

The Council of African Ministers responsible for Water-one from each member state. This is the highest decision making organ.
The Executive Committee comprising of a President and two representatives from each sub-region. The Executive committee ensures that decisions of the Council are implemented and is also responsible for preparation of programmes and budgets for approval of the council.
AMCOW has a Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) to provide expert support. The TAC members are from government water departments/ministries.

A Secretariat headed by an Executive Secretary responsible for handling of day-to-day matters and communication with members. The Secretariat is responsible for taking action on the decisions of the council, under the direction and supervision of the Executive Committee. The Interim Secretariat is presently situated in Abuja, Nigeria.

AMCOW's Sub regional Structure.

AMCOW member states are divided into five sub-regions as shown below each with a Sub-regional Secretariat in one of the sub regional member states to co-ordinate their sub-regional activities:

Western Africa Niger, Benin, Togo, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Liberia, Gambia, Mali, Guinea Conakry, Guinea Bissau, Cape Verde Island, Senegal, Nigeria, Sierra Leone.
Eastern Africa: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia, Comoros
Central Africa: Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Chad, Cameroon, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Congo Brazzaville, Burundi
